Black Lives Matter and Anti-Refugee Detention Advocates Try to Arrest Peter Dutton

At 9 am today, around 7 advocates from the group Refugee Solidarity Brisbane Meanjin arrived outside Peter Dutton's office in Brisbane, Dickson.

One of the lead voices behind the movement, Dane De Leon filmed the event via Facebook live stream. She showed her disdain for the security group Serco, who have been guarding the refugees at Kangaroo Point, and Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.

"Good morning to everybody, except Peter Dutton and Serco, what a lovely day not to be a racist," Dane said.

The group had planned to go to Peter Dutton's office to talk to him about the refugees who are currently being detained at Kangaroo Point, Brisbane.

Dane explained, she felt it was the right moment for the group to speak with the Home Affairs Minister. "I think Peter Dutton by now would know about the blockade, it's time he speaks and I think we could do a citizens arrest.

"Peter Dutton holds the power to let these men out into the community, yet he refuses to do so," Dane said.

The group were refused entry into Peter Dutton's office as the office workers inside felt they may be a COVID risk. The advocates where also told that Peter Dutton was not in the office.

However, the group was still able to play refugee's messages who are being detained via a mobile phone which was connected to a blue tooth speaker.

"We have lost seven years of our freedom, please just consider your humanity we only just want to be safe and free and that's it," a refugee said.
