Brisbane Black Lives Matter and Anti-Refugee Detention Advocates Try to Swarm Serco Food Van

At 5:27 pm on 14th June 2020, Black Lives Matter and anti-refugee detention advocates surrounded a Serco food van.

Serco is the company which runs the Kangaroo Point Central Apartment Hotel, where 110-120 refugees are being detained.

The refugees have been detained for 7 to 9 years between Kangaroo Point Hotel and in offshore processing centres.

The activist’s aim is to check any Serco vans which they believe is being used to smuggle refugees from the hotel.

Inspector Geoff Acreman of the Queensland Police explained the reason why a large number of police officers were brought to the complex, was to deter any protesters from jumping on the van. “We don’t want any altercations here,” he told protesters. He went on further to explain the difficulty that police have in liaising with the protesters. “ The problem is Queensland Police doesn’t know who to talk too and it’s hard to have a decent dialogue when someone is screaming at you with a megaphone,” Inspector Acreman said in regards to the protest on Saturday 13th of June 2020.
